Stashed

So this is what our deep freeze now looks like...

I am so happy to have a great supply of milk, but I am having trouble staying organized. Also, these milk bags are spendy! I get about 50 bags for $10, and go through about 4-5 per day... It was suggested by some good friends of mine to try more bins (there are 2 in there besides the upper baskets but you can barely tell because they are so full) and/or switch to mason jars. I am very interested in checking out the mason jar idea since it will be neater and easier to find the older milk to use up and rotate the stash. Any ideas where I can find lots of mason jars for cheap? Walmart maybe? Let me know if you think of anything else that may work, also, as I am really bad at organization :)

By the way, don't be alarmed if I start moo-ing soon ;)

Holy goodness! I hope ours will look like that eventually before I go back to work. If you don't mind me asking how long before you went back to work did you start storing? Just curious because I've been told different things on when to start.

I started pumping fairly soon after Keira was born - probably when she was a week or two - and would pump once a day. At first I wasn't able to get much, so don't get discouraged, she can get way more than even the best pump can (I was worried she wasn't getting enough). I produce the most milk very early AM, so if Brayelle gets up for a feeding early, maybe even pump right after to completely empty. Once I started, it just got more and more and I started producing much more, too. Kellymom.com is a great resource for bfing. We also introduced the bottle pretty early, just because we knew she would need to take a bottle for daycare. I could keep going :) I am definitely not an expert but if you have any more ?s I can tell you how it has been for me :)

you weren't kidding, yikes! I know we have a lot of Mason jars, just not sure if they would be the right size. I'll check it out. Thanks for coming tonight, it was so fun to see Keira!

I started to pump this week but have ony been doing it once or twice a day. Its discouraging though because I probably only get 1-1.5 oz at a time. I know that she gets more when she eats but still. I am hoping to increase the pumping sessions each daily to help build up supply. And yes I have been to kellymom.com, great info there!

Same here on the oz - when I started I got about the same. I tried to pump or feed keira ever 2-3 hours (sometimes less if Keira was super hungry). I think when she was about a month old I was able to pump 2-3 oz, then 3-4 at 2 months, and now I only pump every 4-5 hrs and get 7-8oz. If I don't pump at night, I usually pump 12oz when I get up (which is really freaky to see so much and still have boobs left!). I have heard that oatmeal can help up production, so I ate that off and on during that time as well, even though I am not a huge fan of it - LOL! Sounds like you are right on track - good luck!
