Fraud

Found out today someone in Delaware somehow made a fake debit card with our numbers... Fun times and over $1000 later... Our cards are cut and canceled and we now wait on a credit for that amount (bank said up to 5 days from the posting date) and new cards (7-10 days). Then the investigation takes up to 90 days. Irritating.
Happy effing Holidays to you, too, whoever you are!

** UPDATE - Other people at our bank also got hit so it is most likely an issue with their security or more likely, the VISA company that our bank does their debit cards through is actually located in Delaware (lots of them are apparently because it is tax-free there) and maybe an employee stole the accounts. AAAANNNDDD - they have already credited our acct so our balance is back to where it should be! All we have to do now is wait for the new cards. Big weight lifted! ***

You won't believe this we had the same thing happen to us or like your situation..I caught it soon enough and cancelled my card before they got to use it..Our medicine Co. said we had to have a Visa card not master to pay for the medicine. This wasn't true, it was a scammer getting our number. Long story I will tell you about..I had the card cancelled within 40 minutes so so far haven't had it used..a person who couldn't speak english was the one who called. they even had our address and all. Be careful with these scammers. Gram

Was this your credit card or debit? I'm surprised your bank is crediting back. Usually credit card companies are the only ones with fraud protection. I feel your pain- it happen to us when our house was robbed. Makes you wonder if it is someone you know.

It was debit through our local bank, I was surprised - they were even the ones that alerted us. Maybe because it is VISA backed I am thinking. No foreigners called or anything - she was thinking it may have been random because they charged 2 one dollar transactions first kinda to test the numbers to see if they worked.

Mine was a debit card and the bank said they took each case separately but they are not covered like a credit card is. I was lucky that I called the Medco co to see if it was true they no longer used Master and they were the ones to tell me cancel the card immediately. US bank fraud unit has even called us to inform us what they were doing. Gram

That really sucks. I know a couple people that it has happened to. Sometimes if someone gets ahold of a piece of your mail or if you used your card on an unsecured site.. the possibilty is pretty much endless.
At least you're getting your money back - tha's good, at least.

I'm glad that everything seems to be getting taken care of. Sucks that it happened in the first place though.
